Musical Supervisor/Additional Vocal Arrangements

Phil grew up in Camberley, Surrey, and studied Music at Birmingham University.
He was the original Musical Director on Billy Elliot the Musical. (Olivier for Best Musical 2006). Phil helped create the show and train the children, and conducted the show for the first year of the run. Prior to that Phil was one of the original creative team for Our House (Olivier for Best Musical 2003). He was Musical Supervisor and wrote the vocal arrangements and additional material. In 2008 Phil was Musical Supervisor/Vocal Arranger for the new musical Imagine This at the New London/Plymouth Theatre Royal (also Associate Producer on the Cast Recording).
Hehas recently been Musical Supervisor/Vocal Arranger & MD on I Can’t Sing! at the London Palladium, and has been working as Musical Supervisor on workshops for Bridget Jones the Musical, with songs by Lily Allen, and Pink Floyd’s The Wall by Lee Hall with Simon McBurney.

Other theatre credits include: Three Sisters, After Miss Julie (both Young Vic);The Glee Club (Hull Truck),She Loves Me (Chichester Festival Theatre), Vernon God Little, My Dad’s a Birdman (with music by The Pet Shop Boys) and The Human Comedy (all Young Vic), Treasure Island (Kingston Rose), Hello Dolly! (Regent’s Park Open Air – Olivier for Best Revival 2010), Gigi (Regent’s Park), Peter Pan (Chichester Festival Theatre), Piaf (Sheffield Crucible), Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella (Bristol Old Vic), Return to the Forbidden Planet (National Tour), Wild, Wild Women (Orange Tree), Canterbury Tales (National Tour), Winnie the Witch (Birmingham Rep), Love in a Maze and Cabaret (both Watermill, Newbury).
Phil worked as vocal coach on Ricky Gervais’ movie Cemetery Junction. Prior to that he worked as singing coach/vocal arranger, with Guy Chambers, on the movie Kinky Boots. He was also Musical Director for the Cast Album of Billy Elliot the Musical and he has recently written theme tunes for CBBC’s The Big Performance and Extreme School with songwriter Tim Woodcock.
